This was my first visit to San Felipe, Mexico.  I was asked to represent Let’s Talk Hookup on the Tony Reyes fishing trip.  As “Charter Master” my first goal was to make sure everyone had a good and safe time.  San Felipe has one main drag, you cannot miss it as it is a very small town.  Most
Tonytrip5-16-1 of the bars and restaurants are located there or within one block.  Late night if you are still hungry I would highly recommend the street tacos…..they are delicious!  We arrived Friday late afternoon and had no trouble finding a room for four people.  tonytrip5-16-3It seems as if the locals flock to the beach on the weekends.

You may start to load the boat with your gear any time after 11 am on Saturday. The “ Tony Reyes” leaves the harbor around noon on Sunday.  Make sure you have your Visa handy as immigration checked everyone before we untied.  We motored all day and night (about 18 hrs) down to Baha de San Rafael arriving around 8 am Monday morning.  After unloading the pangas we starting fishing.  Yellowtail and cabrilla kept us busy for the next day and a half, fishing Isla San Esteban and San Lorenzo.  With NO wind, conditions could not have been any better.
Wednesday  afternoon we started to head north to La Guarda island.  As it is a big island we started fishing the southern portion and got into a Yellowtail bite that seemed to last as long as you wanted to pull on them.   We also started catching more of a variety of fish including pargo, grtonytrip5-16-4ouper, bonita (we used that for bait), amberjack and sierra.  The largest yellowtail on the trip was 40 lbs.

After leaving La Guarda Island we headed north to the coastline.  The wind came up a bit Thursday afternoon as we tried dropper loop fishing, a little slow.  A 17 lb cabrilla was caught that day (biggest of the trip).  We fished Friday morning until about 10:30 am, then headed back to San Felipe.  Made it back to port by 7:30 pm.  As they say “all good things must come to an end”.  Tony and his crew were very nice and always willing to help out with whatever you needed.  He has this trip down to a science, so if you do not want to think about anything but having a great time you need to book this trip.  Call the Longfin in Orange at 714-538-8010 or check  www.thelongfin.com  Join us for our trip next year April 30 to May 6, 2017.  The trips fill fast, so book now!
